Wow! there’s Mark Bradford, he’s 6’8”!! He’s very tall, and elegant… even his huge paintings don’t look big when he stands in front of them.
We’re in the studio, his mother’s old hair salon. This silver painting is beautifully abstract.
Two big paintings, really big blue ones.
Here’s the red one, it’s complex and hypnotic.
Check it out close up, dynamic and interesting.
This is Bradford’s source material, old billboards and posters, in the style of artists like Rotella or Villeglé, but with a totally different context and method.
This is what the paintings are made of… paper, and trashed words, all thrown away words.
Some more of them on the studio floor.
A little touch of Rauschenberg I spied hanging on the wall.
Mark’s library is a bit MESSSY!!!!
Hey, there’s Josh Baer talking with Mark and Amalia. Bradford is really fun and animated, but my feet are killing me… think I’ll have a seat.
Thanks, Mark. Your work is beautiful and very smart… so are you!
