Slamdown Match Up, 2 Miami Private Museums (Rubell and de la Cruz).
December 3, 2011
Let’s drop in first on the Rubells.
Xavier Hufkens in front of a huge Sterling Ruby painting, the graffiti Rothko.
Pawel Althamer sculpture – nice one.
Why is there a Lanvin display at the Rubells? I’m not into it.
Richard Jackson paint pee-pee machine? I prefer Damien’s spin paintings by a factor of of of of of…
Jason Rhoades from last year, not compelling.
Look at Allen Djanogly, art poseur in front of Matthew Day Jackson’s wagon from last year.
Hey, Keith Haring hide-and-seek.
The permanent McCarthy.
Big Houseago’s been there for over 2 years, Young Frankenstein I’ll call him. I way prefer the Mel Brooks version.
Haim Steinbach magic piece.
Look at this nice combo with Koons basketballs.
Permanent Cady Noland
Look, early George Condo, looks kinda good in this context.
Big, sophisticated Mike Kelley Arena.
This hanging is too literal for me, Nate Lowman next to Richard Prince, it’s too obvious, but they got nice work here…
and some, like this Wool, are valuable.
Oh, Charley, Charley, Charley, another permanent installation, not for everyone.
Lorinda Ash poses in front of the Kelley Walkers.
Is this a Mark Grotjahn cousin?
Wade Guyton’s popular “X marks the spot” occupies Miami.
They got Kassays, too.
This tune was not to my liking.
Hey, Rob Pruitt, you’re lookin’ good.
Weird LA artist, I thought it was cool
Pretty, colorful… Wekua-ish looking too
Not a good title for the Rubell’s show in my view, there’s nothing to be exuberant about these days, “American Temperament” would have been closer to the zeitgeist.
This was the most fun thing in Miami! Check this out, Joel Wachs of the Warhol Foundation, I heard Jose Mugrabi calls this number regularly!
Here’s this year’s Rosa de la Cruz museum show. She hung some really good stuff too, but in addition to it being good, she put it together beautifully. See Wool, Ligon, Kassay!, Grotjahn, Guyton, Price and Lowman on one wall – looks chic.
Wool Wool Wool
Look there’s Scott again with Warren and Allison Kanders.
How’s this Salon hanging? I see Kippenberger, Schutz, Meese, Grotjahn and more.
Does everyone have to have a Houseago these days? Well, I don’t!
Mark Bradford fits in beautifully
Rudy Stingel looks chic here
The Kelley Walker/Sterling Ruby homage room, same as last year.
Hey Rosa’s got a Joe Bradley too, she’s hip.
A Rashid Johnson just like the Rubells, and so what.
Colen, Stingel, Guyton and Kassay, a neo op-art dream line-up.
Here are the Tauba Auerbach’s, they still fit in beautifully.
Josh Smith is a local favorite, it seems.
Now you really SEE what I’m SEEING.
Gabriel Orozco ping-pong table doesn’t work for me, what if the ball gets wet?
The permanent stuff, Hodges and Gonzalez-Torres.
Another Houseago (why?) and Ugo Rondinone’s pretty mirrors. It all looks super elegant and it’s hung beautifully!! This year Rosa wins without a doubt!!!!!!
